Bridal Hair & Make Up

This area can be either easy or tricky to make decisions! For me, I knew that I wanted to have my hair and make up similar to as I always wear it when I go out and so making the decision on styles was quite easy, however I have known brides who are between up and down styles and perhaps are having a theme to their wedding that they may want to fit the style into.

Boho chic is very in at the moment with floral crowns and floral hair pieces, but whatever your style, think about who you are… what you feel most like you in.  You want to look back at your pictures and feel like you represented a gorgeous and enhanced version of yourself.  My advice is always, if you wear your hair down, then go for it down, if you’re an up girl go for an up do! There are so many choices of styles I’ve searched good old Pinterest to gather ideas.

Both up and down styles can be styled in particular ways to make you a classic, elegant or relaxed bride.

Bridal make up can also be a tough area for bride to decide on.  Again, my biggest piece of advice is to stay reflective of your personality. If you don’t usually wear heavy make up then keep it natural.  You want an enhanced version of yourself for the big day.  Use a lip colour if you normally do, however I don’t usually wear lipstick so a natural nude is what I’ll be opting for.

4Make sure you book your hair & MUA well in advance.  Seek recommendations from bridal suppliers and friends as it is something you want to feel comfortable and relaxed with.  Ensure your trial is at least 8 weeks before the wedding and be confident to speak about what you like and dislike.  They will, as well as you, appreciate the help and advice.

Favours

Wedding favours has been a sticking point for us so far.  Gone are the days of the ‘sugared almonds’ as couples are opting for more unique ideas.  We keep talking between ourselves of ideas and what we’d like to do but we’re struggling to settled on a particular idea.

So, with this in mind, I decided to do a little research on favours and what kind of ideas there are out there…

For me it’s about choosing something personal, something that fits and shows off your character and fits within your wedding theme. Not all couples decide on favours, I’ve known others to have a candy cart instead or donate to a charity, or for some just simply save the money and keep them out.  The decision is entirely yours.

Winter Wedding – Winter Wonderland

The temperature has seen a sudden drop outside, the air is crisp and the other morning saw the first sign of frost shimmering on the ground.  Bonfire night is over and so now we’re on the countdown to Christmas! Yay! Even though I love being in the hot climates, I do love winter and Christmas time.

Roaring log fires, thick wooly jumpers and cosy knits is just what its all about.  I’m itching to get cracking on my Winter Wonderland window display in the boutique and so as I’m sat here researching ideas, I’ve come across some winter wedding inspiration to share with you…

invite

I think if we hadn’t of chosen Spring for our wedding, I would definitely consider a winter wedding.  The summer in the UK isn’t exactly reliable but for a winter wedding you can really go all out…! And really, who doesn’t love Christmas???

I love the idea of woodland inspired table settings, candles galore and faux furs to keep you cosy warm.

bride

From a bridal wedding dress point of view there is so many looks that are available.  Most brides want sleeves due to the cold weather  which gives that wonderful winter look, but don’t forget a beautiful faux fur wrap can still keep you cosy warm for outdoor pictures so that you can whip it off to party the night away on the dance floor without getting too hot!

From modern brides, vintage brides, boho brides and classic brides… there is a look for everyone…

It appears that some of the most popular and fashion-forward bridal lines are drawing inspiration from a wide array of sources, inspiration has been taken from trends of nature and new awakenings.  Blossoms, florals and soft blush pinks and pastels are appearing upon embroidered airy, light and effortless gowns.  Sheer illusion lace dresses are still making an appearance throughout the 2017 collections with boho keeping a trend showcasing more long and capped sleeve dresses.  The embroidery and embellishment handwork involved within the collections are pieces of art work within themselves.

Here is quick overview of the hottest trends of 2017 so far:

  • Capes are replacing trains as a ceremony statement.
  • Lace continues its domination of bridal style.
  • Off-the-shoulder looks are making a serious comeback.
  • Plunging necklines are everywhere – even, and maybe especially, on dresses with long sleeves.
  • Sheer illusion lace and floral embroidery on soft blush dresses tempt a daring bride.
  • Details…simple. Delicate embroidery, intricate lace, appliqués, gold thread and lots of sparkle everywhere.

What Flower are You?

As Spring is finally making an appearance i’m filling my home with beautiful flowers. I’m a huge fan of pastels and as we were doing a food shop in Booths the other day I came across the most beautiful and uniquely coloured roses…

Vintage Roses.jpg

The colour mix within these roses was just stunning and it got me thinking about our wedding flowers.  I have my favourites but haven’t actually thought about what floral arrangements I’d want.

I have a love for cherry blossom and the dramatic essence that this floral arrangement can provide really excites me and so, if possible, I’d love some dramatic flowers as centre pieces for our reception.

My other two favourites are roses and tulips.  I love both of these flowers as roses are very romantic and elegant whereas tulips remind me of soft spring blooms.

I think I know my favourite between the two, however, if you are reading this I’d love to hear about your favourite flower and which your preference is rose vs tulips…

Sometimes you can’t get a choice of your favourite flower depending on the time of year you are getting married so I will have to check in with a florist soon to see what is available for us in May…

I’ll let you in on a little secret…. I. Love. Shoes.

So as well as being a shopaholic… I have recently become a shoeaholic… Yikes. There. I’ve said it.  But come on, who doesn’t love shoes??

I’ve never really been one to buy designer shoes, I’ve always been about the handbags… but it all started one wonderful day shopping in Mulberry and I came across the most beautiful red shoes.  I was going out that evening with friends and they just made my outfit complete!  I couldn’t believe my eyes.  They were on sale.  Size 6. And I’m always game for a bargain if I can find one… They fit like a dream…

And that was it.  Once you start, there’s no going back!

quote

My inspiration today comes from my absolute love of beautiful shoes. Even though people have said to me ‘but you don’t see the shoes under your dress‘, I personally think that your feet should be blessed with luxurious comfort and style.  You’ve spent effort on everything else you are wearing on your big day, so why let your feet suffer?

The biggest piece of advice I hear and read is to make sure your shoes are comfortable. Wear them in before your big day because you’ll be on your feet a long time! (My personal advice is make sure you purchase a few pairs of different shoes so that you are certain you know which ones you want on the day…that’s what I tell Scott hehe)

And most importantly, make sure you choose your shoe style to who you are, if you never wear heels then it’d be a challenge to keep walking in them all day, stay true to your personal style and the style of your wedding.

White shoes are not a requirement. Some brides want to stay classic and purchase a classic style of shoe, however colours are in at the moment – and if you’re going to invest in a pair of luxury shoes it’s a bonus if you can wear them again!

It’s always best to buy your wedding shoes before your dress fitting, the shoes you choose will play a large part in your overall look.  I received my shoes relatively early as Scott surprised me with my dream wedding shoes and I’ve found it useful to take them to dress stores with me when trying on different dresses.

Lets take a look at the bridal shoe contenders…

Jimmy Choo

JC bride

Jimmy Choo has long been the go-to shoe to accompany brides down the aisle offering a wardrobe of exquisite styles from traditional elegance to Hollywood glamour the shoes are no longer a second thought.  Jimmy Choo offers a special shoe re-colouring service to let you match it perfectly to your dress. Even better, re-colouring the shoe after the ceremony ensures the newly-wed can wear the shoes again.

For brides looking for something exceptional, personalisation goes a long way in turning your wedding shoes into the ultimate keep-sake. I love the fact that Jimmy Choo’s Made-to-Order bridal shoes can incorporate monogram brass initials, or even a number plaque on the sole of each shoe to commemorate the wedding date.

Jimmy Choo Personalisation.jpg

I have to admit that I find Jimmy Choo’s incredibly comfortable.  The cushioning within the shoe makes your feet feel padded and they really fit like a glove.  I had a cheeky purchase in the Christmas sale of the Karla Light Bronze sandal.  They are my go to party shoe for when I want to really jazz up an outfit.

For brides on a budget, it is well worth checking out the Jimmy Choo boutique at Bicester Village.  They have a wide range of shoes here and sometimes a bargain is definitely waiting for you.  I recently purchased a pair of black  high tops from here for the casual days when I want to give my feet a rest!

Christian Louboutin

Two words. Red sole. Two more words. In love.

CL Bride.jpg

With the objective to “make a woman look sexy, beautiful, to make her legs look as long as [he] can”, Louboutin has a clear understanding of what the perfect shoe is capable of. With that signature red sole, Louboutin offers some of the most coveted and sought-after shoes in the world.

I absolutely love Christian Louboutin’s shoes, having recently purchased the essential nude décolleté 554 and black pigalle I’m a massive fan.  In all honesty, as Louboutin’s vision is style over comfort, these shoes are absolutely perfect for a night out… whether my feet would last all day and night is another question…

For anyone who has a pair of Christian Louboutin’s, or thinking about purchasing a pair, the upkeep of the red sole was an issue for me.  I found that after a few wears the red sole had started to wear away  (small panic inside).  I don’t know what I expected really but I didn’t want my red sole to wear away!  Some girls have said they will only wear their CL’s on carpet events to preserve the sole… I haven’t invested in these shoes to limit their wear… so I asked in store whether there was a replacement service for the soles.  I was recommended a cobblers in London called Minuit Moins 7, they are the only establishment that can replace the famous Christian Louboutin red leather soles as well as the rubber soles which have been specially developed by Christian Louboutin for Minuit Moins 7.  They have a cobblers in London and one in Paris.

I have had mine done here, and they are FAB! Absolutely love the finish, and they don’t wear away.  The price for the rubber sole is reasonably priced too at £35.  The only downside is because they are the only cobbler recommended by CL the waiting list from order to completion is a few months.

Valentino

Valetino Rockstud

Chic. Edgy. Modern. Valentino is the next shoe on my hit list.  I’m absolutely in love with the Rockstud heels.  But unfortunately they do come with a bit of a price tag.  For now I’ll keep wishing… But let’s admire their utter beauty…

Badgley Mischka

As I was browsing Pinterest for wedding shoe inspo, I came across the most glamorous and stunning range of shoes. Wow. Badgley Mischka takes inspiration from 1940s Hollywood glamour and reinterprets that style for the modern couture customer. Luxurious details like sparkling crystals and intricately designed hardware make Badgley Mischka evening shoes stand-outs in the fashion world.

BM Bride

2016 is the year to embrace couture detailing in your wedding shoes. Yes, classic is always beautiful and satin will never cease to embody the timeless bridal look. However, who can resist upping the style notch a little?

and finally…

Manolo Blahnik

Manolo Wedding.jpg

Something blue. The ultimate wedding shoe.

Spanish shoe designer Manolo Blahnik redefined femininity with his fashion-forward footwear, which blends experimental design with classic elegance. Blahnik’s stunning shoes are instantly recognisable thanks to their signature stiletto heel and luxurious texture. Unafraid of vivid colour, shape and embellishment, Blahnik’s bold efforts have established him as a design icon of our time.

The Manolo Blahnik Hangisi satin pumps that Carrie Bradshaw wore to marry Mr Big in Sex and the City made my heart melt.  I’m a huge fan of SATC and Carrie’s shoe collection is simply out of this world. When Mr Big proposed with the most beautiful blue satin pumps, I felt it…those are the shoes.  My something blue.

I was one extremely lucky girl when Scott surprised me with my dream wedding shoes.  I have worn them a couple of times but soon realised I want to save these for the big day, so they are nestled away until next year.

So, after lusting over all these beautiful shoes, my tips for choosing your wedding shoes are wear the shoes that are best for you, be true to your style, be comfortable, and have an emergency shoe just in case!

Bicester Village Bridal Week & an Interview with British Designer Amanda Wakeley

Bicester Village is by far my FAVOURITE shopping destination!!! I absolutely LOVE shopping here and luckily it is only an hours drive from Scott’s parents.  I have recently received an invitation to attend the Bridal Week, from the 22nd February to 20th March, there will be a range of events from cake decorating master classes to bespoke flower arrangements and I’m hoping to make it down there  before it ends to pick up some expert tips and browse the rails of the utterly amazing bridal boutiques Oscar De La Renta, Temperley London and Amanda Wakeley.

My inspiration today comes from the exquisite designer Amanda Wakeley

‘For the bride looking for effortless chic…’

Raised in England, Amanda worked in New York before returning to London to launch her eponymous brand with the opening of a studio and bridal boutique in the heart of Chelsea, London. Soon the entirely self-taught designer was a favourite of the world’s most stylish women, including Diana, Princess of Wales, arguably the most famous woman in the world at the time.

In 2010, Amanda was appointed an Officer of the British Empire (OBE) for her services to the British fashion industry and role as the funding co-chair of Fashion Targets Breast Cancer. The Charity has raised more than £13.5 million to raise awareness of and fund research into breast cancer since its inception in 1996.

Amanda’s wedding dresses are simply stunning for an elegant and glamourous bride and her inspiration comes from dresses that can be worn abroad.  The Fulham Road boutique is a beautiful bridal boutique that also carries a selection of evening and occasion wear dresses so they not only cover what the bride wears, but also what guests would wear to a wedding. People who come to Amanda Wakeley for an evening dress would also come for a wedding dress.

British designer Amanda Wakeley shares her top tips for wedding season in an exclusive interview…

‘For me, it’s all about saying to a bride: ‘Don’t let your husband-to-be turn around as you walk down the aisle and not really recognise the woman who is walking towards him.’

White Wednesday, White Weddings

As I was driving through the Ribble Valley to work this morning, there was a beautiful light layer of frost glistening over the fields… The sun was shining through the trees and lit up everything in sight…I love a cold, frosty, sunny morning…

My inspiration for today came to me from the moment I looked out the window…

White Wednesday, White Weddings….

A white wedding doesn’t always necessarily mean winter and snow, white is a classic and stunning colour when set in the right surroundings.

Elegant, simple, classic.

Some people will think using white could be ‘boring’ but with subtle hints of pastels and an array of candles the room can really light itself up.  It of course depends on your venue decor and this is where a splash of colour here and there could make all the difference…
